40 Days for Life campaign planned

A grassroots group that includes area Catholics is planning to participate in the 40 Days for Life fall campaign, a prayer vigil aimed at ending abortion. The vigil will run from Sept. 22 to Oct. 31.

Volunteers will kick off the campaign at a rally from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Focus Pregnancy Help Center, 86 University Ave., Rochester. The event will feature music, inspirational speakers and a potluck dinner. Bring a dish to pass.

People can participate in the campaign by joining in prayer and fasting wherever they are; standing vigil during a 40-day peaceful public witness outside of the Planned Parenthood location at 114 University Ave. in Rochester; or delivering a positive pro-life message to their neighbors through media efforts, advocacy and public visibility.

Past campaigns have mobilized more than 350,000 people worldwide, reported at least 2,800 lives saved from abortion, led to the conversion of 38 abortion workers and witnessed the closure of five abortion facilities, according to event organizers.
