Father William Michatek was a newly ordained priest when he arrived at St. Lawrence Parish in 1966. He was eager to take on his first assignment as assistant priest at the Greece parish, but his enthusiasm waned a bit when he learned his predecessor had been chaplain of the North Greece Fire District, which expected him to become its chaplain as well.

Five permanent deacons in the Diocese of Rochester are celebrating their 25th anniversaries of ordination. They were ordained in June 1986 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester by Bishop Matthew H. Clark.

The Sisters of Mercy marking jubilees this year are celebrating a total of 710 years of service. Many of them have taught in elementary and high schools in the Diocese of Rochester. Others have ministered in health care and in pastoral and social-service ministries in the Rochester area and beyond.

School Sister of Notre Dame Blanche Leising is marking her 60th jubilee. A native of East Amherst, N.Y., she earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland and a master’s in elementary education from The Catholic University of America.
