Bowling fundraiser to take place Feb. 11

By Mike Latona/Catholic Courier

Join us for the first-ever Catholic Courier/Catholic Charities Christmas Appeal Bowl-A-Thon!

The event will take place Saturday, Feb. 11, at L&M Lanes, 873 Merchants Road, Rochester. Three games of bowling and shoes are included. Participants of all ages may register for either of two rounds, from 3 to 6 p.m. or 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Register your team by calling 585-529-9530, ext. 1510, or e-mailing Tamara Tirado at ttirado@dor.org by Feb. 3. Five-person teams are preferred, but smaller groups and individuals may be paired together to fill lanes as needed.

Check-in is 30 minutes before your round begins. Festivities will include a 50/50 raffle and prizes given for highest scratch score, highest scratch series, highest total flat donation pledges raised and highest total per-pin pledges raised. A portion of the food and bar sales will benefit the Christmas Appeal.

Participants may obtain pledge sheets in advance to track donors and bowling scores. The recommended pledge request is 5 cents per pin; bowlers also may obtain flat-donation pledges. Players are required to donate a minimum of $10 at the door to play on the day of the event. All flat donations are due that day, and all per-pin donations are due by Feb. 24. Checks should be made payable to the Christmas Appeal and mailed to Catholic Courier, PO Box 24379, Rochester, NY 14624.

The Bowl-A-Thon will combine fun with a good cause by raising funds for the Christmas Appeal. Now in its 42nd year, the appeal helps individuals and families in short-term financial crisis. Proceeds are allocated to the emergency funds of the various Catholic Charities agencies and their affiliates throughout the 12-county Diocese of Rochester. The current Christmas Appeal runs through the end of February.
