Jazz campers learn to improvise

Each summer, Our Lady of Mercy High School in Brighton hosts several weeklong camps that cater to middle-school and high-school-age girls. This year an instrumental jazz camp held Aug. 8-12 challenged students to think critically about the structure of music, but also to improvise and have fun. Mercy instrumental director Lila Caricati and her husband, Vito, led the instruction, and Vito and some of the girls talked to the Catholic Courier about their experiences. Wonderful job Lila and Vito. What a great way to inspire our young musicians.
