Rochester's St. Monica Church opened its doors at midnight Feb. 22 to give community members a chance to receive ashes and the sacrament of reconciliation throughout the night and the following day. Volunteers and staff, including pastor Father Ray Fleming, were on hand around the clock to assist. Pastoral Administrator Mary Ellen Fischer said the all-night event, which is in its second year, is a wonderful way to start Lent and an important resource for people with hectic work schedules who can't attend regular Ash Wednesday services.
