Agency breaks ground on community garden

Want a garden but don’t have any land? Catholic Charities of Livingston County is offering its neighbors a place to put down roots.

Using goods and services donated by area businesses, staff and volunteers with the Livingston County agency are planting a community garden across the street from the agency’s Mount Morris headquarters. Gardeners from throughout Livingston County will grow fresh food for themselves and for the Mount Morris Food Pantry. Several experienced gardeners have volunteered to share their expertise with new gardeners.

To celebrate the opening of the garden, Catholic Charities of Livingston County is hosting a pulled-pork lunch fundraiser from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at its office, 34 E. State St., Mount Morris. The event also will include arts and crafts and music. Tickets are $6 and are for sale at the office in Mount Morris and at Swain Sports, 94 Main St., Geneseo.

For details on the garden, contact Molly Kerker at 585-658-4466 ext. 124 or e-mail MKerker@dor.org. Community members can follow along with the garden’s progress at www.communitycrops.blogspot.com.
