Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes will hold its fifth-annual Empty Bowls fundraisers Oct. 13 and Oct. 20. The Oct. 13 event will be held at Our Lady of Peace Parish Center, located on Center Street in Geneva, and the Oct. 20 event will be held at the Auburn Correctional Facility Rec Center, 3579 Franklin Street Road in Auburn.
The agency uses the events to raise awareness of the effects of hunger and food awareness in the local community while also raising money for vulnerable children and families in Ontario, Seneca, Yates and Cayuga counties. Participants will pay $20 in exchange for a dinner of soup, bread, dessert and drinks, and they'll be able to keep the hand-made bowl that held their soup. Tickets for children under 10 may be purchased for $10.
The commemorative bowls were made this summer and donated to the cause by local artists and organizations, including the Rochester Folk Art Guild, Geneva High School Art Department, Cato Schools, Weedsport Schools, Port Byron Schools, Cayuga Community College Studio Art and Design Program, William Dean and the Pottery Studio of Stephanie Marshall.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes' programs. For more information, contact Rhonda Zettlemoyer at 315-789-2686, ext. 104, or rzettlem@dor.org.
