Interlaken friary to host 5K run, walk

The second-annual St. Francis Sheldrake 5K Run/Walk will be held Oct. 15, and this year the event will feature a chili cook-off, as well.

The race will begin and end at St. Fidelis Friary, 7790 County Road 153 in Interlaken, and in between runners and walkers will cover a flat course along Cayuga Lake. The race will begin at 10 a.m., and each participant will receive a T-shirt. Winners in each age group will receive prizes, and the top male and female finishers each will receive an overnight stay at the Driftwood Bed and Breakfast and the Silver Strand Bed and Breakfast in the Sheldrake area on Cayuga Lake.

Parishioners from St. Francis Solanus in Interlaken will compete in the chili cook-off, and racers will be able to taste and judge the chili after the race.

The advance entry fee for the race is $20, or $25 on the day of the race. Children 12 and under may enter the race for $10. Proceeds will benefit St. Francis Solanus. Runners and walkers may enter online at www.Active.com or by contacting Jennifer Sharp at 607-279-8613.
