Run for the Young is May 7

The Diocese of Rochester's 15th-annual Run for the Young, a 5-kilometer road race and 1-mile "fun walk," will take place Saturday, May 7, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The race begins and ends at St. Lawrence School, 1000 North Greece Road, where it has been held since its inception.

More than 80 men's and women's age-group awards, along with thousands of dollars in door prizes and prize money, will be given away. In addition, every participant receives a race T-shirt and access to the post-race party.

Last year approximately 300 athletes took part in Run for the Young. Competitors include members of Catholic parishes as well as the community at large, from serious road racers to those simply wishing to complete a 5K. Several thousand dollars are annually raised to support youths in local parishes and the Diocesan Youth Scholarship Fund. This financial aid enables young people to attend diocesan and national conferences, retreats and leadership-training programs.

To register for the race or walk, visit the Diocese of Rochester's website and click on "Run for the Young."
