It’s amazing how God always gives you what you need exactly when you need it!
I had that experience a couple weeks ago and again today in regard to the Catholic Courier’s annual multimedia Advent calendar.
One of the first “treats” of the calendar is usually a video of me making an Advent calendar craft. This year I wanted to find a different way of counting down the days to our Savior’s birth.
I thought I had it all worked out. Then Staff Photographer John Haeger walked into my office earlier this month.
He had seen some social media buzz about a “reverse Advent calendar.” Instead of getting a treat each day of Advent, you collect grocery items and place them in a box to be donated to a local food bank at the end of the season.
I loved the idea!
I researched some examples of reverse Advent calendars, but they all seemed to be missing something.
So I decided my reverse Advent calendar would be a few boxes decorated to look like Christmas gifts. Each box would have several tags attached, and each tag would have the countdown number on one side and Scripture on the other.
But what passages should I choose?
General Manager/Editor Karen Franz unknowingly answered that question for me. This morning she forwarded me information on a new book, My Soul Waits: Praying with the Psalms through Advent, Christmas & Epiphany.
Not only did the information from the book fill my Scripture needs, it also gave me an idea for something later on in our Advent calendar. I’m going to keep that a surprise — you’ll have to check out the calendar on Dec. 21 to see what I’m talking about!
Needless to say, I am very thankful that God always provides!
