Sister of St. Joseph Dorothy Quinn, formerly Sister Bernice, died July 20, 2017. She was 95 years old.
Sister Quinn entered the congregation in 1940 from her home parish of Holy Trinity, Webster. She received a bachelor’s degree in education in 1948 from Nazareth College.
She taught at St. Anthony of Padua, St. Agnes Institute and Immaculate Conception/St. Lucy, Rochester; St. Mary, Auburn; Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Brockport; St. Mary, Elmira; St. Francis de Sales, Geneva; St. Elizabeth, Selma, Ala.; St. Mary Our Mother, Horseheads; and St. Anne, Palmyra. She also worked as a house mother at St. Joseph’s Villa from 1959-60.
Sister Quinn served as a parish assistant at St. Mary Church in Auburn from 1971-82. In 1982, she worked as a home health aide for the Society for the Protection and Care of Children and then for the Genesee Region Home Care Association. The remainder of her ministry was to the elderly as a companion in private homes and through Sisters’ Care.
She is survived by her sister, Eileen Guerrin; brother, Roger (Betty) Quinn; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and by her sisters in the congregation.
Her funeral liturgy was celebrated at the motherhouse chapel in Pittsford on July 26, 2017, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
